Math awareness

At the hairdresser focus is on symmetry and mirroring of a pattern. Also you work with order and recognition of colours, shapes and types.

Materials

Popsicle sticks (or work on paper), eyes and different types of leaves e.g. autumn leaves, petals from flowers or leaves from different trees, colours, glue.

Activity

Create characters by painting the popsicle sticks or draw/paint faces on paper. Afterwards create hairdos by gluing on the leaves so that they are symmetrical around the face.

Play/learn

Talk about the hairstyles. Is there a pattern? Are some leaves similar?

Are the hairstyles symmetric?
